How to cope with diverted mind while meditating ?
Meditation is a natural process. Each one of shows meditative state of mind, when fulfilling is hobby or doing work of his choice. While learning meditation, very often it happens that our mind gets diverted. It keeps happening until we learn to control our mind. These failures in start create a negative state of mind and whenever we sit for meditation, our mind start to say ourselves “we will get diverted this time too”.
This kind of thinking is, like a misfit shoe that keeps twitching your feet whenever you put on them. Instead of thinking this problem we should use our power of thinking in some useful and creative manner to control mind.
Following are some helping thoughts and visualizations for meditation:-
Meditate regularly: Try to meditate regularly so that it becomes a habit for you. Habit is a like an autopilot mode. Habit is a process which we do easily without thinking or planning. Meditation will become a habit if done regularly and our mind will be free from negative prejudices.
Focal point: As mind is a thinking machine, its best to repeat positive affirmations, God’s name to focus our mind. Meditating on breathing is one of best ways. In this process we feel our breathing process in our mind. You need not to control it, just be an observer of breathing. We can think about those qualities of any great personality, which we want to imbibe in ourselves.

Break the chain: Thinking process is similar to chain reaction. One thought leads to multiple thoughts. Our mind keeps floating and diving in this ocean of thoughts. When we focus our mind on any thought we give it fuel to generate strings of thoughts.
The trick is not to board this train of thoughts. Be like an observer on platform who sees these ongoing trains of thoughts. If you get success to avoid a thought, very next moment a second thought will appear and after that many more too.
Don’t force yourself, Calm your mind and keep avoiding them. After some days of practice, speed of thoughts coming, will decrease and slowly-slowly this current will stop.
Visualization: By combining some visualization with your imagination, you can train mind to get in meditative state. Prerequisite is that you should sit in a comfortable but straight pose and breathing slow and naturally.
Imagine, in your body sparkling water like spirit or soul is flowing from head to all limbs. In next step, this sparkling liquid is coming back from legs, hands and all limbs to your head. As liquid is leaving any body part, that part becomes still, relaxed as lifeless.
All this liquid is suppressing in mind and shining like golden light. Now this sphere of light decreasing in size and in the end it shines like a point in middle of your eyebrows .With closed upward eyes try to focus on this point and forget about rest of the body.
